My research focuses on understanding the role of the tumor microenvironment in the development of cancers, with a particular interest in brain tumors.
I also carry out research into vascular biology (the mechanisms of blood vessel development, the fabrication of artificial vessels and the study of vascular inflammation).
For the conceptual part of my research, see the " Philosophy & History of Science " section.
I also invite a number of national and international speakers to present their work
Our vascular system irrigates every piece of tissue, ensuring its oxygenation, supply of nutrients and elimination of the products of metabolic exchange.
In humans, over 80 diseases are linked to a dysfunction of this system. Understanding how it is formed is therefore a major issue in medical research.
Andreas Bikfalvi invites us on an exciting journey through the history and most current concepts concerning research into the bloodand lymphatic vessels
The book is easy to read, well illustrated, and seeks to understand and convey the issues involved in research into the vascular tree in development and pathology.
This book provides a comprehensive account of vascular biology and pathology and its significance for health and disease.
It systematically and chronologically explains how we came to our current understanding of the vasculature and it's function today, and describes in an entertaining way the diverse flaws and turns in science and medicine from the past.
It thereby offers a complete and well-studied history on vascular biology and medicine.
The book has an easy-to-read style and is written for students as well as scientists, physicians and lecturers in the field of biomedicine, human physiology, cardiology and hematology.
The Encyclopedic Reference of Vascular Biology & Pathology provides a synthesis of the whole field of vascular biology: from the latest advances in the study of the structure and function of blood vessels to recent investigations of their interaction with blood cells, with non-cellular constituents of the blood, or with cells of the neighbouring tissue.
The latest results from tumor angiogenesis to the latest advances in atherosclerosis research are discussed by leading experts in the field.
The Encyclopedic Reference together with the accompanying CD-ROM guarantees quick and easy access to all relevant information for both researchers and clinicians.
